Brad Banfield, PE | M.ASCE

Corporate President | Shareholder

Brad has been with the firm since 2006 and has developed experience in the industry since 1997. In 2013, he became a shareholder of the company. In 2020 he was named president. As president he is responsible for the formulation of medium and long-range business plans for the firm, for oversight and execution of the firm’s philosophy and goals, and for maintaining the overall client experience. He specializes in WisDOT Project Management, and oversees Buesing’s Wisconsin growth initiative. He works with clients to deliver projects on time and budget and minimize clients’ critical exposure issues. He is licensed as a Professional Engineer in the State of Wisconsin. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from The University of Wisconsin – Platteville. He is WisDOT HTCP certified in Transportation Materials Sampling (TMS), Materials Coordinator Training (MCT-D), and Portland Cement Concrete Technician I (PCCTEC-I). Brad’s interests outside of work include spending time with family, hunting and outdoor activities, golf, coaching basketball, and watching sports and competitive events.

John Gantenbein


WisDOT Senior Project Manager | Corporate Vice President

John has been with the firm since 1996 and has developed experience in the industry since 1987. He was a shareholder and Buesing’s President from 2005 – 2019. He specializes as a Project Engineer on WisDOT projects, property and design surveys, and construction staking. His experience allows him to respond directly to clients’ needs and specialize in suggesting alternatives to improve project goals. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering with a Transportation and Construction emphasis from the University of Wisconsin – Platteville. He is WisDOT HTCP certified in Transportation Materials Sampling (TMS), and Portland Cement Concrete Technician I (PCCTEC-I). John’s interests outside of work include hunting, golf, bowling, coin and gun collecting, and watching football, basketball, and baseball.

Terry Koelker, PLS


Corporate Secretary | Treasurer

Terry has been with the firm since 1989 and has developed experience in the industry since 1988. He was a shareholder of the company from 2005 to 2019. He is the Dubuque office manager and oversees all aspects of the company in its day-to-day operations. He oversees job cost estimates to prepare bids for potential projects. He works with clients to meet their needs for each project. His experience includes subdivision design, land surveying, and site design. He is a Professional Land Surveyor in the State of Iowa and holds an associate degree in Mechanical Technology from Northeast Iowa Community College. Terry’s interests outside of work include woodworking projects, attending grandkids sports programs, and cruising in his side by side UTV with his wife Joyce.

Patrick J. Norton, PE | M.ASCE


Senior Project Manager |

Civil Engineering | Shareholder

Pat joined the firm in 2012. He brought 20+ years of experience in civil engineering projects with him. He specializes in land development design and project management for large and small projects. He can act as a client advocate and representative, engineer, and manager for all aspects of a development from property rezoning and conceptual layout to final design and regulatory review through the end of construction. He is a licensed professional engineer in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri and Wisconsin; a LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC); and a member of the American Society of Professional Engineers (ASCE). He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1994 from Iowa State University. Go Cyclones! Pat’s interests outside of work include grilling and smoking meats, following hockey, landscaping, and building sets for local youth, middle school, and high school theater productions in which his family is involved.

Thomas P. Larsen, LSIT

Land Development | Shareholder

Tom has been with the firm since 1990 and has developed experience in the industry since 1990. He became a shareholder of the company in 2020. He specializes in subdivision design, land surveying, and site design. His experience was acquired through designing 40+ residential and commercial subdivisions in Dubuque, Asbury, Peosta, Cascade, Dyersville, Dubuque County, and others. He works with clients to meet their needs for each project. He is an LSIT (Land Surveyor in Training) with the expectation of becoming a licensed PLS (Professional Land Surveyor). He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology from Iowa State University. Tom’s interests outside of work include snow skiing, audio & video gear, movies and music, and auto racing (as a spectator).

Kenneth L. Buesing, PE | PLS


Senior Project Manager

Ken founded the firm in 1985 after developing experience in the industry since 1968. He specializes in all aspects of civil engineering and land surveying from project management, coordination, attendance at meetings for clients, or anything else that needs an experienced hand in the engineering or surveying field. He has carried licenses as a Professional Engineer in Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, and Michigan and is a Professional Land Surveyor in Wisconsin, Iowa, and Illinois. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Ken’s interests outside of work include bicycling throughout the United States as well as the local area of Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin over the last 25 years accumulating many, many thousands of miles.

Kevin T. Schaub, PE


WisDOT Project Manager | Construction

Kevin has been with the firm since 2006 and has developed experience in the industry since 2002. He specializes as a Project Engineer on WisDOT projects, WisDOT Materials oversight, and surveying. He works with WisDOT personnel to meet their needs for each project. He is licensed as a Professional Engineer in the State of Wisconsin and Iowa. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Wisconsin – Platteville. He is WisDOT HTCP certified in Transportation Materials Sampling (TMS), Materials Coordinator Training (MCT-D), and Portland Cement Concrete Technician I (PCCTEC-I). Kevin’s interests outside of work include deer hunting, fishing, spending time at his family’s cabin in Hayward, and helping his father on their family farm.

John Hermsen


Assistant Project Manager

John has been with the firm since 1992 and has developed experience in the industry since 1991. He specializes in land surveying and constructing staking. He leads surveying crews using GPS, robotic total station, or conventional equipment. His experience includes loading the information collected into AutoCAD or Civil 3D and drawing what is required for the project from start to finish. He leads the testing and design of residential septic systems in Dubuque County. He coordinates the percolation testing of the sites with clients and aids the engineer in the design of the system. He works with clients to achieve the client’s goals for a final product. John’s interests outside of work include watching my Daughter dance with her traveling dance team, playing basketball and golf, watching movies and all kinds of sports either live or on T.V.

Rob Koelker


Project Manager | Surveying | Shareholder

Rob has been with the firm since 2000 and has developed experience in the industry since 1999. He became a shareholder of the company in 2020. He specializes in property surveying, construction staking, and AutoCAD drawing. He is a FAA part 107 licensed drone pilot specializing in aerial photography, material quantities, and site topography. He works with clients to help achieve clients’ goals. He can lead a surveying crew using GPS, robotic total station, or conventional equipment and load the information collected into AutoCAD. Rob’s interests outside of work include spending time with his family, watching his children at their many sporting events and fishing any chance he gets.

Justin J. Lau


Project Manager | Surveying | Shareholder

Justin has been with the firm since 2004 and has developed experience in the industry since 1998. He became a shareholder of the company in 2020. He specializes in land surveying, construction staking, and AutoCAD drawing. His experience includes serving as a Civil Engineer Technician in the Army from 1998 to 2005. He was deployed to Iraq from 2003-2004, where he helped design and develop base campsite. He works with clients to meet their needs for each project. He can lead a surveying crew using GPS, robotic total station, or conventional equipment. He is working on getting his degree to become a PLS (Professional Land Surveyor). Justin’s interests outside of work include riding his motorcycle, hunting, and camping with his family.

Jessalyn McDermott


Business Manager

Jessalyn has been with the company since 2005 when she started her clerical career. She specializes in business management and the day to day duties involved with office administration. Jessalyn works with clients to provide customer support. She holds an associates of applied science degree in business management, an associates of science degree and a certification in AutoCAD, from Northeast Iowa Community College in Peosta, IA. Jessalyn is pursuing her Bachelor of Science degree in Survey Engineering Technology from the University of Maine. Jessalyn’s interest outside work include watching her kids play basketball and softball, along with rehabbing/upscaling furniture.
